The Special Learning Center is dependent on the generosity
of many businesses and individuals throughout Central Missouri that
support us in the work we do. If you are interested in helping our
agency and the children we serve, there are many ways for you to
get involved:
Community Involvement
Through field trips, United Way-sponsored activities,
and interaction with local businesses and civic organizations, the
Special Learning Center is very involved and visible in the community.
Interacting with the community gives the children experiences that
will help them through life. The outings also help people in the
community learn about our agency and see the recipients of their
contributions.
The Special Learning Center continuously benefits
from the generosity of many businesses and organizations that graciously
support the agency by:
- Helping with special projects or events
- Purchasing necessary supplies and/or equipment
for the program
- Hosting special holiday parties
- Providing gifts for the children at Christmas
- Computer support
The Special Learning Center also benefits from the
hard work and generosity of two community groups who sponsor golf
tournaments on behalf of the agency.
Jefferson City
Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Golf Tournament:
For more than a decade, the Jefferson City Association
of Insurance and Financial Advisors has hosted a golf tournament
with proceeds benefiting the Special Learning Center. For more
information about the tournament and sponsorship opportunities
available, please contact us at staff@speciallearningcenter.com
or call 573-634-3070.
Tom Henke Golf Classic:
Tom Henke, former major league baseball relief pitcher,
and the Jefferson City Cosmopolitan Club host a golf tournament
each October that benefits the Special Learning Center. Current
and former sports celebrities who play in this tournament have
helped to make this annual event a success. For more information,
contact us at staff@speciallearningcenter.com
or call 573-634-3070.
Volunteer Involvement
The Special Learning Center is grateful for the wonderful
volunteers who help our agency on a regular or one-time basis. From
playing the piano for group music or baking cookies, to helping
with classroom projects or field trips, our volunteers provide critical
support to our children and our staff.
Our volunteers come to us from a variety of places.
Some are individuals in the community who are interested and willing
to offer their time and talents. Some are participants in the Jefferson
City Chamber of Commerce Business/Education partnership program
or United Way supported events such as Day of Caring or the United
Way at Work Program. Still others are completing Christian or A+
service hours through their high school, or are obtaining valuable
career experience by completing a therapy rotation or practicum
placement.
If you are interested in volunteering at the Special
Learning Center, please contact us.
Funding Needs
As a private, not-for-profit United Way agency, we
rely on the generosity of individuals and our community for financial
assistance.
