It's United Way campaign time again, and we are grateful to this community for its amazing support of the local United Way agencies like the Special Learning Center.  This year's local and national theme is "LIVE UNITED."  When each of us do our part to help each other, we LIVE UNITED and make our community a better place.

A perfect example of how Jefferson City demonstrates this attitude is through its recent support of our playground grant.  It was awesome to see this community rally around us to help the SLC project move up in the ratings from 334th to 2nd!  It's thanks to all of you LIVING UNITED that this was accomplished for the children at the SLC.  Over the next few months, we encourage you to support the United Way campaign.  Your gift makes a difference to thousands of residents in central Missouri!  Thank you!

Where can you find a group of adults worth more than half a billion dollars, approximately 30 young children, carnival games, balloon-making clowns, music and ponies?  At the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City!

Twenty-seven Missouri Lottery-made millionaires and their families celebrated summer by hosting a carnival for the children at the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City.   The event was part of the 24th annual Millionaires Reunion on June 29th.  During the annual reunions, the millionaires give back to the community they visit something more valuable than money:  their time.

During this year's event, the millionaires helped the children participate in carnival activities such as a ring toss, duck pond, pony rides, face painting and more.  Since the Missouri Lottery's mission is to raise funds for education, the Special Learning Center was a good fit.

Our school year has ended.  We had graduation and said goodbye to over 40 preschool graduates.  Summer is upon us and things are really heating up at the Special Learning Center.  With a number of area school districts not having summer school this year, every SLC classroom is filled to capacity.   It is a great time of year as the children enjoy outdoor water fun, special musical guests, and field trips to area parks and pools.

Summer school starts June 1st for SLC Special Needs classes, Crayon Kids daycare, and  Camp Jade Summer Camp.  Also we have more great news.  We can now accept online donations.  We are off to an exciting start of summer!
