At the Special Learning Center, our speech, occupational
and physical therapists are licensed
and registered in their respective fields and provide services to
children in a variety of environments:
Individual sessions:
Therapists work one-on-one with children who attend
the center-based program at the Special Learning Center or come
to the Center for outpatient services.
Group setting:
Group therapy is incorporated into classroom sessions
and has proven to be effective in improving the skills of children
with and without disabilities.
Natural environment:
Our therapists also conduct therapy sessions at children’s
homes, childcare facilities or other settings as determined in the
students’ individual education plans. These sessions, conducted
in the child’s natural environment, also enable the therapists
to discuss and demonstrate appropriate activities for the child’s
caregiver.
Public school setting:
Many area public school districts in the Central Missouri
area contract with the Special Learning Center for early childhood
special education services including:
- Physical, occupational and/or speech therapy
services provided at the public school during school hours;
- Classroom instruction provided at Special Learning
Center through the preschool/pre-Kindergarten program;
- Consultative services
